Wallpaper roll calculator
Plan full-height strips from your roll dimensions, wall sizes and pattern match. See the working rolls, optional spares and a strip-by-strip cutting estimate.

Your roll plan
Enter your measurements, then calculate.
A conservative estimate, not an optimized installation layout. Confirm the product’s match instructions, physical roll size and dye batch with your supplier before ordering or cutting.
How the estimate works
For each wall, strips = wall width ÷ roll width, rounded up. Each strip’s cut length is wall height plus your combined top-and-bottom trim. We cut full-height strips sequentially and use a roll’s remaining length for the next wall when possible.
For straight and half-drop matches, the model reserves one full repeat at the start of every roll for initial motif alignment. Later cuts advance to the next matching pattern position. Half-drop alternates the start position by half a repeat; each new wall starts with the first position. This is deliberately conservative: an installer may reduce waste by selecting a motif position or alternating rolls.
Example in inches: a wall without a pattern repeat
A 144-inch-wide wall (12 ft) with a 96-inch height (8 ft), a 20.5-inch-wide × 396-inch-long roll (33 ft), and 4 inches of combined trim needs eight strips. Each strip is 100 inches long, so each roll provides three full strips. The result is three working rolls; choosing one spare gives four physical rolls to order. This assumes free/random match. For a patterned product, enter its match and repeat instead.
Example with a straight repeat
A 230 cm wide × 265 cm high wall needs five strips from a 55 cm wide roll. With a 1,000 cm roll length, 10 cm total trim and a 65 cm straight repeat, the plan uses two working rolls. Adding one spare gives three rolls to order. The first roll’s strip starts are 65, 390 and 715 cm from its end; each cut is 275 cm long.
What this calculator leaves out
No deductions for doors or windows, no reuse of short offcuts, and no optimization across differently sized strips. It does not handle murals, sloped walls, quarter/third-drop matches, reverse hanging, coordinated A/B rolls or seam positioning. These can need a supplier or installer’s layout. Do not use the cutting estimate as instructions to pre-cut an entire room.
Pattern matching and trim affect usable yield; square-foot coverage alone does not capture these losses. See Graham & Brown’s wallpaper guidance and measuring guide. The full-repeat starting reserve and sequential plan are this calculator’s stated assumptions.
