Plant-spacing layout calculator

Fit rows of plants into a rectangular bed with independent row spacing and edge setbacks. See a centered layout diagram and download plant-center coordinates.

How to use this tool

Replace the example values with your own, then choose Calculate plant layout. Changing an input clears the previous result until you calculate again. Copy the result or download a CSV to keep a record.

Method

For each axis, available center span = bed dimension − twice the minimum edge setback. The count is floor(span ÷ spacing) + 1 when the span is nonnegative; otherwise it is zero. Multiply the two counts. Unused space is shared equally at the two edges, centering the grid.

Worked example

An 8 × 4 ft bed with 12 in spacing in both directions and a 6 in setback fits 8 plants per row and 4 rows: 32 positions. The first center is 6 in from both edges.

Assumptions and limits

This is a geometric layout, not a crop-spacing recommendation or yield forecast. Use seed-packet or local growing guidance for your plants and method. Beds are rectangular with no internal paths. Rows are not staggered. The preview shows up to 500 positions; the coordinate CSV supports up to 100,000.
