Photo print-size & PPI calculator
Convert pixels into print dimensions at a chosen PPI. Check crop-to-fill resolution for your target print and compare common photo sizes without an upload.
How to use this tool
Replace the example values with your own, then choose Calculate print resolution. Changing an input clears the previous result until you calculate again. Copy the result or download a CSV to keep a record.
Method
Uncropped print dimensions in inches equal image pixels ÷ chosen PPI. For a crop-to-fill print, effective PPI is the smaller of image width ÷ print width and image height ÷ print height. The common-size table keeps the entered image orientation. Required pixels round up from print inches × target PPI.
Worked example
A 4000 × 6000 px image prints uncropped at about 13.3333 × 20 in at 300 PPI. Filling an 8 × 10 in print gives 500 PPI after cropping the image height to 5000 px. At 300 PPI, an 8 × 10 print needs 2400 × 3000 pixels.
Assumptions and limits
Source PPI and a printer’s ink-dot DPI are different. A numerical target does not guarantee sharpness: focus, compression, viewing distance, paper and printing method matter. The 300 PPI default is an example you can change. No resampling or file editing occurs. Swap width and height yourself when comparing a rotated image.
